OVERVIEW:
The 2009 Lidums Australian Junior Chess Championships will be held at Saint Ignatius' College in Athelstone, Adelaide, SA.
The SA Junior Chess League is very grateful to the generous sponsorship provided by Mr Aivars Lidums and Saint Ignatius' College.
26th June 2008
The website has finally been put online - with more to be added. Important items to note:
a) There will be two games/rounds on the third day of the competitions - ie on Sunday 4th January 2009.
b) The last round will start at 9am with the Presentation of Prizes at 4pm
c) Players may take a maximum of two half-point byes, but not for the last two rounds.
10th August 2008
The organisers reserve the right to reduce the number of rounds if there is an insufficient number of entries - this option may be necessary for the Girls Open or the Under 12 Girls where in the past it has been the case with say 14 players, their tournament has been extended even further than the standard tournaments. Therefore the event will be a 7 round Swiss if we get 14 players or less, and a 9 round Swiss if we get between 14 and 18 players. Anything more than 18 players, and the tournament will be run as an 11 round Swiss.
7th October 2008

20th October 2008

16th November 2008
The Problem Solving Competition will be set by Geoff Foster from Canberra and conducted by Nigel Nettheim of Sydney and promises to be enormous fun - it will held in exam like conditions - you will be given an A3 sheet, folded, so that you cannot see the contents and then you will have 2 hours to try to solve the problems. The problems will be quite difficult - you may spot the answers instantly but probably won't! - but you will have your own board to try out things and many of the answers will delight you.
The Competition will also be open to ADULTS - who are they??? - and prizes will be given to both juniors and adults alike. The entry fee is $10.
An introduction to the Problem Solving Competition was produced for the 2007 Junior Championships in Canberra and if you want to read it, simply click here. If you would like to see the answers to the 2007 Quiz, click here
Nigel is bringing the problems with him, aided by a team of security guards - no one but him will know the answers - which means that even I can get to enter!
The Competition takes place on the second Rest Day - Saturday 10th January, at 10am. Many thanks to Geoff and Nigel.
